Caring for your Redy Drive

Updating

These databases are updated anywhere from once every few months to yearly. Periodically run the REDY DRIVE software on the device to check for and install any updates.

Preventing Data Rot

On NAND based devices (such as the Redy Drive, Redy Drive USB, and Redy Drive MAX), data is stored in transistors with electrical charge. This charge can degrade over time, resulting in “bit rot.” To fight this, ensure you plug your Redy drive product into power and leave it idle (not reading or writing) for at least 4 hours to allow the internal NAND controller to check for and repair any degredation. This is not required on the Redy Drive HDD, as it uses a magnetic hard disk.

If you find your drive has suffered from data rot, delete all kiwix files and re-download them from the Redy Drive tool. If the tool itself is still failing our you’d like a full refresh, Redy Drives can be sent in for a full re-flash of the latest version of the software and database files for $20 (customer must pay shipping).

Please note this item is made to order in my free time, so may take a bit longer to ship out than other products! Please see our shipping and returns policy for more details.
